Does anyone have access to the Monumental Inscriptions in the parish of St Matthew in Ipswich?
Google Books give me the tantalizing snippet from page 200:
Sacred to the memory of Mrs Mary Cockle who died on the 21st Feby 1836 ... She was the youngest daughter of the late Charles Rope Esq of Pulham in the county of ...
I'd love to know the full inscription. She was a minor poet and author but I don't know her husband's name only that he was a Dr Cockle

Hi, don't have MI's for Ipswich, but the burial record is : Mary COCKLE, buried 26 Feb 1836 age 63, dedication at St.Matthew, Ipswich, Suffolk. This gives her a birth year of c. 1773
A possible baptism on the IGI gives Mary ROOPE, baptised 23 Apr 1772 St. Mary Magdalene, Pulham, Norfolk-parents Charles and Eleanor ROOPE.
Also, a lot of universities seem to have works of Mary's listed, maybe they have more on her, or maybe you could contact St. Matthews Church direct. Best wishes, haliared
Yes that's her - she wrote some fairly awful poetry, was a goveness to the FitzClarence children and then kept a school in Ipswich. An interesting life.
