Wisbech St Mary's, 1896

In a previous post [http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,20170.msg74428.html#msg74428], I was looking for help with my maternal line of Pigots. Various helpful souls opened lines of enquiry way back (including a fanciful link to Hastings and beyond).

Now, in return, I have a small offering. A collection of family by-gones came to me in the last few days, which I am sorting at the moment. Many are WW1 stuff, and will appear on the militaria sites. One seems to belong here. It reads as follows:

Testimonial
to
Mr Matthew Pigot

The undermentioned Residents of Murrow, Wisbech Fen, and Wisbech St. Marys have pleasure in asking your acceptance of the accompanying Purse of Gold as a slight proof of our Regard for you, and of our Satisfaction of the Diligence and Geniality which you have ever shown in your the pursuance of your calling as Rural Postman in the Village during the past 20 years. Assuring you of our Regret at your Departure 1896
We are Most Sincerely Yours

So far I have not been able to acquire a decent image (the original would be too large for my flat-bed copier): I'll try further if anyone is interested.

What amused and entertained me is that some of those surnames are still prominent in the area:
Logged
