1837 Error messages
« on: Saturday 08 January 05 14:12 GMT (UK) »

This is soooo frustrating. I am logged in to 1837 online, put in the info I am searching for and the view pages come up. As soon as I click on a page to view, I get an error message in the bottom left hand corner of my screen, and when I click on details, I get a message saying the page may not function properly. This means I am unable to view any of the pages. My internet options and firewall are all set to default, and the 1837 site is on my firewall as a trusted site. Can someone please explain to me why this is happening. Thanks........... Lyn

Do you have any advert blocking switched on in your firewall? They can mess with the layout of pages and make some site unuseable.

Hi ExEssexGirl

It might be one of the following three things:

If you have Windows XP Service Pack 2, this could be causing the problem. If this is the case, go to Internet Options, and on the Advanced tab ensure that there is no tick next to the “Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart)" option. If there is a tick, untick it, and then the internet browser will then need to be restarted.

If you have a McAfee firewall, you need to disable the “Privacy Service” while actually on the www.1837online.com website.

As Trystan said, a pop-up blocker could also cause the problem so disable any pop-up blockers while on the 1837 website.

If you cannot sort it out in one of these ways, why not e-mail or telephone 1837? They are very helpful.

Hello all. thank's for the replies to my posting, and for your suggestions. My firewall is Norton, and I did untick the ad blocking. I emailed 1837 with a question re this, and they requested I phone them so that they could talk me through the problem. What I have done since this happened, I just reloaded Internet Explorer6, and when I went back into the site, it functioned perfectly, so hopefully it's solved my problem. thank you both once again .........
