Hi,
I am doing a one name study of the Rossiter family and am looking for information please about the parents and siblings of Mary Ann Rossiter who married Olive Lasbury. ( Olive is male, born circa 1823 Bath Somerset).
They married at St August The Less Church in Bristol on December 7th 1845.
I am hoping that you can find birth details of Mary from the censuses. Her father is John Rossiter according to the wedding record.
I'm surmising that as the wedding was in Bristol it was probably Mary's local parish and birthplace but any information would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
Best wishes

In 1851 Mary Ann says she's born in N.Petherton, Somerset. She's age 31. Also in the household is her sister Caroline age 22, also b. N.Petherton. It's just Olive, Mary Ann & Caroline.
In 1861 Olive is a widower. Caroline is still in the household (it's just the 2 of them and a servant, now her pob says Williton, Wilts. The Wilts looks like it's been added separately and there is a Williton in Somerset I think.
In 1871 Olive and Caroline are married. Her birthplace is now Williton, Somerset. They have 5 children along with a neice & nephew( named Poole b. Williton) in the household & a couple of servants.
By 1881, he is married to an Agnes b. Scotland. 2 children at home.
I think that in 1841 Mary Ann is in Sampford Brett, Somerset John Rosseter 45, Y John, 20, Y Robert, 14, Y Charlot, 40, Y Mary, 20, Y Emelia, 16, Y Caroline, 12, Y
No occupations are given .
Not sure what specifics you may be interested in so that's the bare bones. Let me know if you'd like more detail.

Hi Louise,
Many thanks for that.
I have the 1841 family in my database but Mary Ann is given as Marianne and Caroline is not listed.
I think that John & Charlotte's family are the root family in that I doubt if I will be able to find John's father, records being what they are.
It looks like Olive & Mary Ann married but had no children. I'd be grateful for details of Olive & Caroline's children please and for Olive and Sarah's children.
I'm still left wondering why Mary Ann married in Bristol.
Best wishes

In 1861, RG10/2537/5/p2 Bristol, 10 Park Street.
Olive Lasbury, 47, Bookseller, Bath Caroline, 43, Williton Wm Hy, 9, Bristol Alice, 4, Bristol Arthur,3, Bristol Francis, 1, Bristol Un-named son, 4days, Bristol Emily Poole, neice, 19, Williton Eva Jane Poole, neice, 13, Williton, Mary Knowles, nurse, 60, Peneford, Som Ann Matilda Allen, servant, 17, Downend, Glos
1881, Westbuy on Trym, RG11/2502/44/p39 Olive Lasbury(transcribed as Oliver) 58, retired bookseller, Bath Agnes, 43, Falkirk, Scotland WH, 19, Grocer's asst., Bristol Alice, 14, Bristol Hannah Amos, 22 servant, Bristol
1891, Westbury RG12/1988/155/p15 Agnes is listed as a widow and is alone with Alice, and a servant, Hannah Attwood. Both are listed as living on their means.
So as you say Olive and Mary Ann don't appear to have had children, nor Olive & Agnes.
It is of course quite possible that Mary Ann had moved to Bristol to work prior to meeting Olive and they were both living there when they married. I have a couple Somerset girls doing the same.

Hi Louise.
Many thanks for that.
Found Olive's marriage to Agnes Edgell at Barton Regis in the September Qtr of 1879.
Is it possible to check the 1871 Census please and see if the fifth child of Olive & Caroline is named?
Best wishes

I'm sorry I've misdated my censuses I think .... the first one with the unnamed son is 1871, not 1861. I just double checked. No luck with a later sighting on the boy - but at least you know exactly when he was born!
