I'm not trying to convince anybody - just trying to help  Huh

These MI's are from the Mitchell & Mitchell pre-1855 books and yes, I agree that they can be wrong for umpteen reasons. You'd be amazed (or maybe not) at how many of the transcriptions in these books are completely wrong.

My all time favourite was Hellen Kekkijoo of Dunipace. This entry had intrigued me for some time and when I eventually found the stone, it quite clearly says Hellen Kerwood . . . . . need I say more?

I don't ever 'guarantee' dates on MI's to be correct, I just pass on as much info as I can and it's up to the individual to research further.

Sorry Anne  Smiley

Dave and I have been working on this all day and have been going around in circles with the John *rl*n*s as the previous messages on the thread will show.

The only one that fits the evidence is the James and Elizabeth one b. 1758. Tracey said that he was dead by 1841 and must have had a good reason for saying that.

The MIs - I've seen some of them. One of mine had an ancestor about 50 years older than her husband and who would have given birth at 67  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

No, Anne. Think it's just frustration that the records aren't clear enough and in the end we have to use probability  Undecided

No will/TT found for John, although his son and wife left TT or inventories. I wonder if there's anything in the Kirk Sessions Minutes  Undecided

I think Dave might be having some of the RabRory stuff that was on a photo thread earlier today  Smiley

Tracey might be able to use some of the MIs to track the earlier generations. They seem to have been in the area for quite some time.

Nice one to get us back on track Gadget.
No, we haven't put that one on yet.

I'm still trying to lay all this out in tree form to try and get to grips with it but I keep losing myself.  Roll Eyes

Now I've caught a fish alive, I'm going to have to be the dotty one  Cheesy

I've looked up Elizabeth McLuckie but a few too many and not quite right for the 1740 marriage  Sad

Any MIs for them, Anne ?

Seriously,

2 entries that are interesting for marriages -

11/3/1717 Robert McLuckie to Jannett McLuckie GROS 484/ 0010 0399
3/7/1718   Robert McLuckie to Jannett Leckie     GROS 484/ 0010 0400

I've just got to get those images to ascertain why two entries back to back.
Both are in the same Parish.

Never fails to amaze me how lovely the writing can be way back then - wee snippet attached.  OK, it's not Copperplate.  However, it's a lot better than I can do with a quill and ink!

--------------------------------------------------------

1st doc:
"Proclaimed   Robert McLuckie *
 17 Febry               @ Kippen
                     Jannet McLuckie

Married 11 March 1717        (hey, that was my mum and dad's anniversary - not that year!)

---------------------------------------------------------

2nd doc:
"Proclaimed  Robert McLuckie Kippen                  Married July 31st
June 22        Jannet Leckie Drummond
1718

---------------------------------------------------------

The 2 docs appear to be original consecutive pages from the same record - the dates run from "10 Febry 1717" to "July 13th 1718"
