have researched the accident up to a point and have newspaper cuttings regarding the incident. There is more work to do!

The aircraft was a Hawker "Audax", K7381, piloted by Sgt. S.R. Morris attached to the 1st Elementary & Reserve Flying Training School, Hatfield. An RAF Court of Enquiry found that the accident was due to unauthorised low flying. A convenient outcome for the RAFas the engine of the aircraft appeared to be faltering immediately prior to the crash. I have already found an incorrect RAF decision with an air accident that affected my own civilian family when they were killed by a crashing aircraft whilst they were "foot passengers on the highway" during WWII.

I went to Dunholme Road in 1999 and took photographs of the houses that were originally affected; to Edmonton Cemetery to photograph the memorial and to the Central Library to photograph the Roll of Honour board.
The best eyewitness information is that available in the report from C.D. Angier, the Housing Supervisor for Edmonton Council dated 12th September 1938 and addressed to the Chairman and Members of the Housing Committee of Edmonton Council.

Mr. Angier was clearly very much "on the ball" and was on the scene very soon after the accident and explains the action he and his colleagues took to get the situation under some control. He lists those people killed and injured by name and what was happening to the properties affected on his arrival and after. He also lists the work and cost of repairs. This information is in the archives of the Local History Unit at the Town Hall in Green Lanes and was supplied to me by the kindness of Graham Dalling the Local History Officer in 1998.
