Thomas Whitehead
« on: Saturday 09 February 08 10:38 GMT (UK) »

Hi,

Can anyone help please?

My GGGG Grandfather was Thomas Whitehead b?  he married Sarah (nee Cook) b1750.

They had a son Robert Whitehead b1790, Wellington, Shropshire.

I would like to find out DOB and death for Thomas.

Any other info about ancestors of Thomas would be very welcome.

Thanks

Hi Dawn  Smiley

The only Thomas that I can find in the Wellington area bpt. around the right-ish time is this one on the IGI. It's a controlled extraction so should be pukka  Smiley:

Bpt. 6 June 1745, Dawley Magna . Parents - William Whitehead and Elizabeth.

Dawley Magna is just south of present day Telford and approx 2-3 miles from Wellington.

Also in the same area, at Withington, from my Shropshire records is:

Baptism on 7th September 1746 - William son of William Whitehead and Elizabeth

Hi Gadget,

Sounds as though it is the right Thomas  Smiley

I know his wife is down as place of death - Dawley Magna, in 1817.

Can't find a marriage for William and Elizabeth - I've looked in Shropshire and other counties.

There seem to be quite a lot of Whiteheads in the area - going back to the 1600s.

Hi Gadget,

I didn't know the name Whitehead was that popular  Shocked

The only areas I have for the Whitehead's are Dawley, Shropshire and Wellington, Shropshire.

Later on down the line abt. 1849, Fanny Whitehead b 1823 married William Lloyd b 1826, he was from Greet, Shropshire.

Then the family seems to have moved to Birmingham.

If you'd like a list of the ones from the Wellington area, I could put one up later  Smiley

Hi Dawn  Smiley

It seems that nearly everything is on the IGI. If you go to:

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true

and put in Whitehead and then the following batch numbers in the Batch Number box:

Dawley Magna - P008591 and M008591

Wellington - C037524 and M037521

You'll get them all.

There are quite a few early wills but these aren't on the PCC will on the Nat Archives site so they must all be Lichfield ones. I think it would be worth contacting either Lichfield or Shropshire for these:

Lichfield - http://www.lichfield.gov.uk/index.ihtml

Shropshire Archives - http://www.shropshire.gov.uk/archives.nsf

Hi Gadget,

Thanks for batch numbers  Smiley

I have printed them out so I can have a good look through them, and try to sort out ancestor's dates.

Thanks for your help  Smiley
