Hi Im a newbie to all this so please be patient with me..!I apologise if im doing wrong..
Im am interested in looking up my Fathers family history/tree etc..not sure where to start, have very little info to go on at the moment, hoping my mother will come up with some added info soon, but her memory is not so good, and sadly my dad passed away without d telling us much about his family history Hence trying to find out now..I want to start with my grandfather and work back to grt grandparents etc..It would be of some interest to my own grandchildren in time im sure, as well as me and my family
To start with i have my Grandads name and roughly when he was born, it being Stanley Primmer circa 1896 ish 7/8/9ish.. Born I believe in Reading, or around that area, had 2 brothers, one of whom was Arthur primmer not sure on the other..He married a Maud -"Hadley" (so it's believed) not sure on spelling though..and at a guess would be in 1920's or earlier. He died in 1949, ( july or august) apparently in his 50tys Would appreciate if anyone can help or point me in the right direction as to how to tackle this.....Many thanks in advance

Looks like it might be stanley v primmer married to Maud m fisher, date about right as well, my grandmothers name was definatly Maud and seem to remember her middle name being Mary..which fits, her maiden name could have been fisher as Hadley was suggested by a friend of the family and a very hazy recollection at that!! Nobody (aunts and uncles)2 still living but memory not to good, have ever mentioned anything about wiltshire most are all berkshire born and bread...Oh ! and they had a daughter Olive (my Aunt) so that ties in as well WOW She dies quite young in 1950's i guess
He is believed to have lived in prospect st reading shortly after being married, and then moved to Winnersh in the 20s?30s finaly living along the Oxford rd, where he died, my grandmother, continuing to live there till she died in the 80's
Thanks for info though fascinating but where do i go from here..?

Arrrrrrr!
Found out that Edwin also could have been their fist son, didn't know him as died b4 I was born but he was refered to as Ted and I assumed his name was Edward...! and Uncle Norman I knew of..so could all be poss..
Are their any ref to a Victor or Tony Primmer father Stan?
How do i get any further back without really knowing any Christian names? ie great great grandparents, maybe my aunt might help, but her memory is not to good. Will definatley try and find out if her Mothers maiden name was fisher... Many thanks to you all though..

Bagsy - time to get a bit organised: write down what we already know:
Grandfather : Stanley Primmer b. 1893 Reading. Grandmother : Maud Mary Fisher b. 1893 Reading they were married 1915 Their children were: (from the list you have in these posts)
Great Grandfather : William Primmer b. 1868 Dinton, Wilts Great Grandmother : Rose Hadley . 1866 Reading (I think Rosina) they were married in 1889 in Reading Their children were : (from the lists you have in these posts)
William Primmer, together with his mother Leah, brother and sister, moved to Berkshire in 1871 from Dinton, Wilts. His father was Charles Primmer, so:
Great, Great Grandfather : Charles Primmer b. 1836 Fareham Hants Great, Great Grandmother : Leah Wright. b. 1835 Dinton, Wilts They married Q3 1863 in Kensington, London.
Charles was a Butler, in 1871 -1881 he was working at Haines Hill House, Hurst. Leah and the children lived at Burscombe. Leah had been a laundry maid before they married.
So - there's your start!
On the other sides: Maud Mary Fisher (your grandmother) on the 1901 census she is living with her parents in Reading, so: Great Grandfather: Edwin Fisher B. 1854 Compton, Berks Great Grandmother : Mary J (maiden name to be discovered) b. 1857 Sussex.
Hope you find this useful -
