Thomas Reid and Agnes Walker Paisley
« on: Monday 11 February 08 18:32 UTC (UK) »

Hello,
I am seeking information on the ancestors of my greatgreatgreatgrandparents, Thomas Reid and Agnes Walker.  Thomas was a weaver, living on Ferguslie sp? Street in Paisley. He would have been born in approximately 1800, and had a son, Alexander, who was born in Paisley June 13, 1830.  Alexander was married to Elizabeth Cochrane, also born in Paisley. I would love to hear from anyone who has information on Thomas, especially his father and grandfathers' names.
Thank you!

Hi,

The family in 1841:
1841 Address: 2 Millerston, Paisley (Abbey), Renfrewshire
Thomas Reid, m, 50, silk hand loom weaver, outside county
Agness ", f, 51, -, outside county
Thomas, m, 21, -, outside county
William ", m, 19, -, outside county
James ", m, 13, -, Renfrewshire
Alexander ", m, 10, -, Renfrewshire

It looks like the Reids came from Ayrshire. On the IGI, there's births for Thomas (1820) and William (1822) in Stevenston, along with John (1814), Robert (1816) and Janet (1818). Thomas and Agnes married there on the 30th November 1813.

Thank you so much, hume 24!  I knew that they must have moved to Paisley around the time Thomas was married, but had not idea from where.  Now I do, thanks to you! Wink
