Another place to look is the IGI on www.familysearch.org. They have some info there.

There is an Edwin FISHER baptised at Compton, 18 Sep 1853, parents Thomas FISHER and Hannah.

Looks like Edwin FISHER married Mary Jane FRAKE, Sep qtr 1875, Reading, 2c 627. The IGI has some baptisms at St Mary's, Reading for the daughters only, including Maud Mary

Daisy FISHER, 2 Sep 1877
Emily Jane FISHER, 6 Jul 1879
Edith Alice FISHER, 5 Mar 1882 (born 1 Jan 1882)
Agnes Florence FISHER, 9 Nov 1884 (born 19 Oct 1883)
Maud Mary FISHER, 5 Nov 1893 (born 1 Sep 1893)

There is also a baptism for a Leah WRIGHT 24 Jun 1834 at Dinton, Wiltshire, parents Thomas WRIGHT and Ann BARNES. This is a submitted entry, not an extracted one, so should be checked against the original record. There is also a submitted marriage for Thomas WRIGHT to Ann BARNES at Dinton on 21 Oct 1823.

Baggsy -  that's why it's called a tree !  you should end up with :

Yourself
2  parents
4 grandparents
8 great grandparents
16 great, great grandparents
32 great, great, great grandparents

etc.etc.

So when you've looked at Fisher, there's Hadley.... and  Frake..... and Barnes.... and for each name there is a 3, 4, 5 great grandparent out there for you to find!

Make sure you keep your records - or you'll get all lost!

Welcome to the most addictive hobby in the world  Grin and to the rest of your life. I've been researching our tree for 22 years and still enjoying adding a leaf here and there and more information about the places the ancestors lived their occupations military records etc etc etc it is a tree and trees keep growing  Smiley
Enjoy preserving your own little forrest dad's tree mum's tree gran's tree nan's tree great gran's tree and so on.  Roots chat is always here to help
I suggest you get a loose leaf binder and start a section for each family and have a page for each person as a starting point If you keep your information on the computer please back it up regularly and have a paper copy too.

Yes I can see it becoming quite addictive, still I am only working part time now, so have more time on my hands to have a hobby which i enjoy and I have always wanted to start a tree..!!!

I have tried most of the sites reccommended to me in this thread but find I can only get so far and you have to pay, my money has to stretch quite far now I'm part time and fast reaching retirement, can you advise the cheapest way of doing more research..?

Free BMD will take generally take you back to 1837and give you the references to get any certificates you may need to take you bake a generation only get main line certificates and only then if you have no other way of finding mother's maiden name Marriage certificates should also confirm bride and groom's fathers names don't be anxious to get too many or that gets pricey, The Family Search site also free can be great if the parish you want has been covered(not just a"patrons entry) It can take you back a long way,, but you must be wary . When you retire ,like me, you could plan your holiday to allow a visit to a record office where the ancestors lived you will find the RO staff are always helpful. Your best resource is the one you are using ROOTSCHAT its amazing how much help and knowledge people here have and of course its all free. Don't be shy just ask and help will always be on hand.
I suggest your next step will be to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on YOUR SURNAME INTERESTS then follow the instructions to put your surnames on the list and to see if anyone else is researching the same names in the areas you are interested in. If you find one click on the members name and send a PM(personal message to see if they can add anything to your research,
Hope this helps a bit I'm off to bed now Good hunting

Baggsy - I presue you live inor near Reading - you are therefore right on top of the County Record Office of the county you are looking at!

www.berkshirerecordoffice.org.uk

They are at 9 Coley Ave, Reading.  Tel : 0118 901 5132

They have all the county records, parish registers included.
