Hi Bethan
On the 1881 do's it say he is born Renhold . Plus someone on Ancestry has him dying in 1866 Biggleswade, Bedfordshire/Hertfordshire. Although that one is uncourced

Hi Bethan
I have looked on the 1861 for a Thomas born 1836 Renhold, but no Thomas Constant .

Hi Bethan/Ricky Had a thought (in the middle of the night!) which makes it possible that the 1866 death of Thomas born 1837 is still the one you found in USA in 81:
If Thomas disappeared c1859 and was presumed dead the family would not have been able to get a death certificate until 7 yrs after ie 1866. Thus he would not have appeared on the 61 census (I can't find him anywhere either) and could still be alive and well having done a bunk to the USA.
Worth investigating I would think

Other than the Renhold guy, I can't see a suitable candidate for the Thomas Constant who is in Philadelphia in 1880 - unless his whole family emigrated before the 1841 census. of course.

Hi Jan
Looking at the census's, can only see 2 Thomas Constant's in Bedfordshire
1 born 1825/27 who is married to a Mary Ann Sear?, and he is on the 1841/51/61/71 census, and dies in 1880
The other one born 1837 Renhold is on the 1841/51 census, carnt see him on the 1861, but there is a death for about the right age for him in 1866.

Hi
I've found the same. The 1880 Philadlephia Thomas only says born England - so I've also checked for Thomas' of right age born elsewhere - there is one born 1834 in Kent but he doesn't appear after 1841 and there is an 1843 death which could well be him. The shipping lists might offer more info.

I don't believe that a presumption of death after a 7 year absence would result in a death cert being issued. £7 will prove it one way or the other though. In any event who would have bothered? He wasn't married so didn't have a wife who wanted to remarry; his parents both appear to have been dead by 1861.
In 1910 in Pennsyvania there's a Thomas Constant age 65 father of Lulu Danson age 38. In 1880 Thomas Constant had a daughter Louisa aged 8 so if it's the same Thomas either his ages in 1870/80 were wrong or the 1910 age is 10 years adrift. The 1910 Thomas gave his emigration year as 1862, but also gives his parents' birthplaces as France

On the 1870 census it too only states England.
Constant Thomas 35 m w brush maker $ 300 England Elizabeth 25 f w kepping house Wales William 2 m w Penna Adeline 7/12 f w Penna
Philadelphia ward 1 District 3 Philadelphia Pennsylvania. M593_1387 F 632 IM 581
$300 is the value of real estate.

Hi David/Tazzie
Looks like I was having a middle of the night fantasy if his parents were dead (hadn't checked that) and I can't see a marriage so no need for anyone to have death cert.
I saw the 1910 entry but don't have full access to details - looks as if it could be the same Thomas with age 10 years out.
There is a Thomas D Constant on the Philadelphia passenger list and a Thomas Constant on the Passenger and Immigration index arrival Philadelphia - anyone able to check these fro details?
