Find me in the Yellow Pages.

London gazette.? google for a site. I think "the times" may not be inline for free these days, at least not outside of a library.

Most court cases are not reported in the newspapers at all. If it was a high-profile case, then The Times is your best bet for a report. However, as Pauline says you will not be able to access the Times Digital Archive unless you either have a relevant library membership or you go to a library which has access. You could request a lookup as some Rootschatters do still have online access.
The Guardian newspaper does have a pay site for its archives which might be worth a look: www.guardian.co.uk/archive
The London Gazette is/was only used for formal notices of e.g. bankruptcy/company insolvency/partnership dissolution etc. and will not have any narrative reports of court cases.

Not any more, unless you live in Bedfordshire (see recent thread on this at http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,282225.0.html)

Hmm, well, it still works for me..... maybe they didn't realise that my part of Canada is not in Bedfordshire. Or maybe they haven't got round to purging me yet. Let me know what you want me to search for.....
Lucky you! I didn't get the e-mail but can't get past the "changed access" page. How do you get in?
Modified: actually probably better not to tell me on here as I don't want to get you purged/in trouble - but feel free to PM me if you want.

Well the case I am after I believe happened around 1908 dealing with a solicitor Frank Ridley of Essex , where a signature was changed. i have nothing in writing but remember someone telling me years ago. I may have it all wrong.I think it may have been in the Old Bailey. I hope some one can look it up for me. Wegsgirl

Have only just come across this thread, and have never accessed 'Times Digital Library On line' before.
I was thinking what a great resource I appear to have missed, but further investigation proves that a lot of libraries provide this remote access if you belong to them.
Unfortunately my local libraries does not appear to be one of them ( Penketh or Warrington in Cheshire, England), but Cheshire Libraries offer access and others - Central Lancashire, Birmingham, to name but two. Also Athens users have access, I might be able to get access through work.
So, I'll be obtaining a Cheshire Library card if my library does not have access, suggest that others who know what a valuable resource it is check out your nearest county library, wherever that may be.
I can't wait to see what I've been missing.
