« on: Tuesday 12 February 08 14:28 UTC (UK) »

Hi, would  anyone know what this says & where it might be? Its my Great Granny's usual residence at time of marriage in 1923. It looks like  Tor-na-dee, (the farm? ******) muntle?
What do you think?
Thanks
Nicola

I agree with what you think but it doesn't say Farm in my opinion.

Hi,

Sorry can't make out the part in brackets, but Tor-na-dee (a hospital) is very near Milton of Murtle, on the North Deeside Road, between Bieldside and Milltimber, a few miles out of Aberdeen.

You'll find it on google maps.

Good luck with the rest,

It's Tor-na-dee, The Sanatorium, Murtle. Murtle seems to be just an alternative name for this hospital aslo known as the Deeside Hydropathic Hospital. I'm not sure if the hospital still exists.

Aargh Isobel H - you've just beaten me to it.

You're correct,  I live half a mile from the old Tor na Dee Hospital which is presently being converted to flats for the over 55s.

The link below takes you to an old ordanance survey map - Aberdeen in 1928. Select it - no.45 on the list.

http://www.nls.uk/maps/early/os_scotland_popular_list.html

If you scroll out to the west of Aberdeen you'll see clearly marked 'Hydropathic'  - to the west of Milton of Murtle in Milltimber.

Regards,   Steve   :O)
