Surname MASTERS Donhead St. Mary
« on: Saturday 02 June 07 01:31 BST (UK) »

My grandfather was Hedley Masters.  I know Hedley's
father was Eli, grandfather William Pond Masters , b. 1808
but I would like info on William Pond Masters' father, who
is also William Masters - I think.  I would like to know when
William was born and to whom he was married.  Any info would be appreciated.  Thank you.  Reeny

HI, I came across your post and was wondering if you have more informations regarding the siblings of William Pond  Masters? I have an Anne Masters that was born around 1797 in Berwick st. John, wilts.

Thanks Shauna

Hi Reeny.  Welcome to Rootschat.

Seeing that your ancestor was given the middle name 'Pond',  it looks quite likely that this couple are his ancestors.   (Found at:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true

IGI Individual Record
WILLIAM MASTERS
Spouse:     ANN POND
Marriage:     19 FEB 1739      Cann, Dorset, England

Extracted marriage record for locality listed in the record.

Unfortunately familysearch doesn't show any children for this marriage, so there is no definite link, but it would be worth investigating.

Added to original message:  Cann in Dorset is only a few miles from Donhead St Mary - they are both near Shaftsbury.

Hi:  I did find that William Masters was married to Ann Pond in 1739 but seeing that William Pond Masters wasn't
born until 1807/08 I think I have a generation missing, as you said,  and that's what I'm looking for.  Thanks for letting me know that Cann is close to Donhead St. Mary.  Not knowing the area at all I find it very difficult to know how close to Donhead St. Mary these towns are.  I am finding the most info I get is from the Dorset site.  They have done a wonderful job.  I wish that the Masters name wasn't so common and also the names Willliam and Ann.  But, then, what else would I do in my spare time.

Shauna.  I think that William Pond Masters had a sister,
Mary Ann, born Jan 28, 1810.  Unfortunately, I have this on a piece of paper and I can't remember where I got this info.
For sure, it was from a church record as it is listed as a baptism.  Wiliam Pond Masters, son of William and Ann is also listed.  I probably won't be working on my family tree now that summer's here but will get back to it in the Fall.  I will keep your email and if I find
something I will let you know.  Regards, Reeny
