Hello yet again!
Sarah Ann Green is the older sister of my great grandmother, Jane, born late 1855.
I have records on Jane's 2 brothers but Sarah Ann doesn't seem to go beyond the 1861 census - that i could find.
SA was born in Weeley, St Osyth, Tendring in 1849: deduced from the 1851 census which has her at 18/12.
She may have married before she was 20/21 in which case i have no knowledge of details or her man.
Is it possible to find out if she either married and had the surname change or did she die?
According to 1861 census, she is now just called 'Ann' and is 11 years old.
Yours gratefully, Julie.

Possibiltiy for her in 1871 is
RG10 193 54 35
as 20 yr old servant, born essex in household of Thomas Nidpath in Hampstead, London
I have tried looking fo rmarriage, nothing conclusive.
Also for lookking on 1871 for "Sarah" born 1849ish in Weeley - came up with a Sarah Webb, with husb John, but looking back thruogh marriages that lead to a Sarah Butler - so not her.

Liz,
I just thought i'd get back to you! I'll just tell you where i'm at re the Green connection. I hope you don't mind?!
I've paid Essex R/O for a search on Robert Green and came up empty really. I don't know the background to Robert giving 1801 and Ardleigh as his birth details on the census of 1851. No record on their search. I wonder about these paid searches in bureaucratic estabs. They can't be expected to have the interest which i think must really drive good research?!
I have a death cert. for a Robert Green, in 1858, from the Union Workhouse, and that gives his age in years as 70!. So i went to the IGI and searched from 1785 to about 1820. No go. I find bits and pieces here and there with nothing much tallying. I surmise this is not uncommon!
What is clear is:
Robert Green married Sarah Watkins : a mc shows such a couple wed in St Andrews Holborn, in 1844. Good. They appear together on the 1851 census with 3 children. Then Sarah and 4 children appear (with lodgers x 2) on the 1861 census, which describes her as a Widow. From there i have bits and pieces again.
I have a dc for Robert Green - as above. ie 1858 but i have no demise date for Sarah Watkins Green. She does not appear on any of the censuses with 3 of her children that i have followed. Thank you for that on Sarah Ann/Ann. I've speculated much about where she might have gone, if she left St Osyth, and there are too many Sarah Greens on the BMD to be thorough!
Robert and Sarah's children: Jane my ggrandmother: i know about now. She died in 1903. Her son, my grandfather emigrated to Aust in 1912. Sarah Ann/Ann: what became of her after 1871? Octavious: married Mary Ann Breen and had a very travelled life and 6 children, 4 born in India. 1901 census the last. John: the eldest, i have his life via all the available censuses. He too had 6 children.
So, of their parents i know so little. Octavious's youngest, Charles was born in Wales in Pembroke Dock, so i'm wondering if he and his parents returned there after India to reconnect with Sarah's origins, albeit they were in Brecknockshire or Radnorshire.
Would you be able to comment on the above please?
Kind regards, Julie.

Hi
My comments for what they are worth!
First of all I need to ask what evidence yuo have to link these various entries together. Green is such a common surname that there must be thousands of Robert's and Sarah's and the like around.
So - you say you have this marriage in 1844 Rob Grn to Srh Watkins. How do yuo know this is the right couple? Do you have a birth cert for one of their children giving the mothers maiden name as Watkins?
Sarah is a widow in 1861, so Robt must die 1851-61.
Is there another thread about this family somewhere - I was just about to post the census details for 1851/61 to make it easier for other searchers, and they are SO familiar!!! With Sarah (senior) being born in Wales, and the Ardleigh place of birth for Robert looking a bit like Hadleigh - I have definitely discussed all of this elsewhere!! Plus the 'pauper' lodger, who is most prob a family member...

Ah - here it is !! ;
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,285391.15.html
lots about Robert n Sarah on there.
So, yes, reading that you do have a birth cert for a child confirming the maiden name.
Right - back to Sarah/Ann With a common name it will be hard to pinpoint her at random to find a marriage or death - I think you need to woek around her and build up a general picture of her family. Sounds like you have done quite a lot of that in following her siblings. So, can you gather any info about her from what you have? For example, who are the witnesses when Jane, Octavius and John marry? Is any of them a Sarah Green, or a Sarah something else which may be worth investigating to see if it is her, married? Have you found a death for William Syrett? (Scott on 1861, though I havent looked closely to see if it is the same chap as Syrett in 1851) - likely to have been registered by Sarah Green senior, if he was either a family member or long term friend. These are just random ideas - it is difficult when someone with a common name is hard to find, so it is just a case of following up any little leads to see if any give a further clue.
