AUSTIN of Sherston Magna
« on: Wednesday 13 February 08 11:43 GMT (UK) »

Hi, I have found my 3x grandfathers parents and siblings in sherston Magna, Wiltshire,  the father was William Austin and the mother was Elizabeth ?. By the time of the 1841 census it looks like William had died but Elizabeth is still there with 2 of her sons Charles and John, Elizabeth's birth date is estimated to  abt 1786 in Wiltshire. How could I find out when they married and her surname with so little information? Plus they had daughters Rebecca  b 1816, Elizabeth x2 b 1821 and 1823 and  Sarah b 1823 who I can find nothing on, not even in the census, what am I doing wrong?

Hi,

i don't think your doing anything wrong Smiley
they're probably transcribed as something completely different to Austin.

I've looked and cant find them.

i hope to go to the wiltshire records office in the next couple of weeks,if i go I'll have a look at sherston parish records and see if i can find anything.

regards

Hi Paula and Frances. Thank you Paula for your offer. Yes Frances they are the ones. I will try to tell you what I have but I am on tablets that addle the brain so it could be hit and miss whether I make sense or not so I apologise before hand.

Cant" find where William was born and apart from William Eliazar Christening nothing on him either. On the census Elizabeth was supposedly b in Wiltshire abt 1786 but with  no surname it is like a needle in a haystack. Also nothing on the wedding date. George nothing, Thomas was my 3x grandfather was transported, Rebecca nothing, Charles married Hannah b abt 1826 Rangeworthy, Gloustershire, they had John William, Elizabeth x2 one must have died but nothing, the same with Sarah and John was a groom and a Butler was in Malmesbury Union in 1901 and there is a death for a John Austin aged 80 in the July, Aug and Sept 1904. Not much is it and I don't where to look now. I have tried the IGI and Census and got most of it from there. Well thank goodness for spell check
