The Longford Westmeath Argentina Society - Link
« on: Thursday 14 February 08 02:20 GMT (UK) »
The Longford Westmeath Argentina Society was formed in 1989. It is a historical and cultural group, which aims to promote a greater awareness of and maintain the relationship between the descendants of Irish emigrants to Argentina, and the community living in Co. Longford today. The site mentions "The Southern Cross" which is an Argentine newspaper founded on 16th January 1875 by Patrick Joseph Dillon (1842-1889), a Roman Catholic priest, editor and politician who was born in Tuam, east Co. Galway. The Hogan Stand website tells the history of "The Westmeath connection with Argentina."
