Dorricott Ironbridge
« on: Thursday 14 February 08 14:03 GMT (UK) »

I am looking for info on Thomas Dorricott @1836, his wife was Emma Durnal 1838-1876, they had a son John Dorricott 1866- married to Harriet Attwood 1872-1954. I hve been unable to find birth or death records for Thomas or a death entry for his son John.
Does anyone have any info or ideas where I may find any missing information.
Many thanks

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

As Thomas was born before Civil Registration was introduced
any birth/baptismal records would be on either the IGI at www.familysearch.org or in local parish records

The 1861 census shows him b Madeley 1836 but there is no IGI entry for his birth.  Emma was also b Madeley

In 1861 they had a son Edward aged 3 so I think this may be Thomas with his parents on the 1851 census for Madeley transcribed as Dorrcott

All b Shropshire - children b Brace Meole (Meols?) except George

Corfield Row Madeley

Edward Dorricott 48  bricklayer b Condover
Ann  47  b Sherif Hales
Edward  18
Elizabeth  14
Charles  5
Henry  11
Jane Dorrcott 7
Samuel  10
Thomas  13
George  2  b Madeley Wood

Thomas Haynes 27  lodger

Thankyou both for the welcome and replies, I do have the census returns for Thomas and Emma back to 1861, but could find nothing prior to that or anything to indicate the names of Thomas's parents, hadn't thought of trying a different spelling  Huh
Will now try the 1851 and hope for some luck there, so frustrating as it is the most important route and seem to be getting nowhere concrete past Thomas and Emma at the moment, can't even find death for him although I did find a birth at the records office in London.
Thanks again for your replies  Smiley

Hi

I have already given you the 1851 details in my reply (just to save you searching) You may have "done a typo" and meant 1841

Oh sorry about that, I am confusing myself now! the birth record I found was for John Dorricott 1866, nothing at all for Thomas  Sad
Thanks

Hi Deb

Take a deep breath and read on:

You want to trace Thomas Dorricott's ancestry - he was the father of John b 1866.  Because he was born before 1837, we have to rely on census entries to track his parents

You know that Thomas married Emma Durnall so I have given the reference for their marriage above

A copy of their marriage certificate will show the name of Thomas's father and also his occupation

If his father was Edward - then the census info I have given above is correct and you have his parents

If it isn't - we go back to the drawing board with the new info

Thankyou, obviously I need to sort my thinking out!  I already had the marriage reference for Thomas and Emma but hadn't thought to order the certificate so thanks for the pointer there!

You can tell I am new to this  Cheesy

Thanks so much for your help, I am going to order the certificate now and will post with what I hope is good news when it replies.

Keeping my fingers crossed and assuming his dad will be Edward - I found this marriage on the IGI at www.familysearch.org

Hi Annie

There is an 1833 marriage on the IGI for Edward Dorricott to Mary Owen so I think John belonged to them
