Located Ryans' (g-grandparents') townland--any relatives?
« on: Thursday 14 February 08 17:13 UTC (UK) »

I have traced my great-grandparents' townland where they lived immediately before they immigrated to the US in 1865.  It was Cooneen, located between Silvermines and Templederry in Tipperary.

Now I'm wondering if anyone out there is researching Ryans (and Lynches) in Cooneen.  This lies near the border between the Templederry and Silvermines RC Parishes and is in Dolla civil parish.

The particulars are:  Michael Ryan (bn c. 1820) and Bridget Lynch (bn c. 1835), married 1859 in Templederry; Margaret Ryan (bn ?), married James Corbett (bn ?) in 1862 in Templederry, likely moved with James Corbett either to Upperchurch or Nenagh; and Patrick Ryan (bn ?), likely married Kate Rourke (bn ?) c. 1850-1860.  I believe that Michael, Patrick, and Margaret were siblings and that Patrick and Margaret stayed in Ireland.

Hello

You have done well.  I am struggling for my Patrick Ryan I am told that if you don't have a Mother's maiden name it is an almost impossible task.
I don't suppose there is a magic solution other than keep researching and looking.

I will get there one day

My great grandfather was Timothy Ryan born about 1861.  My family say that Timothy was born in Nenagh and was known by the name of Tipperary Tim.  His parent's were Timothy and Honor Ryan.  I don't know Honor's maiden name.  Timothy (1861) left Ireland with his brother Patrick and went to America where he met his wife, Mary Fitzpatrick, before coming to live in England.  He is listed in the 1891 UK census. I have had searches done in Tipperary and have not found his birth record yet.

Hello Quiggs

I have been away and have only just brought myself up to date on this link.

I have now got the death of my Patrick Ryan but still no birth information.  With all these Ryan's and Patricks there has got to be a connection somewhere.

So I will plodd on.

Hello Quiggs

The only information I have and this is taken from the marriage certificate of Patrick Ryan to Lizzie Hooper in 1882 was that
Patrick Ryan's Father was James and he was a shoemaker.

I have spent many a long hour at the National Archives looking through Royal Marine Artillery Attestation papers in the hope that I could find Battery Sgt Major Patrick Ryan but to no avail.

Many thanks for your interest
