Lt James Hope marriage to Elizabeth Reid
« on: Thursday 14 February 08 21:17 GMT (UK) »

Hello again

After searching all records I am unable to find the marriage of my 5x Great Grandfather Lt. John Hope to Elizabeth Reid.

I have found on the Scotland site, the births of their children all from 1817 St Cuthberts, and it says that Elizabeth was his spouse. Yet I can not find their marriage in Scotland.

Could this have something to do with him being a Lt, in the 92 Regiment, Gordon Highlanders? Although it does say on the birth certificates 'late of the' 92nd.

Was it usual for wifes to accompany officers abroad ?

I know that he was in the Battle of Waterloo, as (I'm very excited about this) I have found he wrote a book containing letters on the battle that he wrote to another officer. (Iberian and Waterloo Campaigns)

Any ideas of where his marriage could be?

Thanking you in advance  Grin

Hi Ragna,

I found an Extracted record on IGI,

James Hope married Elizabeth Reed 24 Jun 1822 at Felton, Northumberland, England. This could be a bit late if family born from 1817.
