Gibson trying to connect
« on: Friday 15 February 08 13:27 GMT (UK) »

I am trying to connect two Gibson`s Margaret Gibson married Jacob Henrici in 1881,she was born about 1854 in Sedgefield and Isabella Gibson married Peter Henrici she was born 1829 in I believe Fishburn.I have what I think is Margaret on the 1861 census then lose her on the 1871.
Isabella is more difficult but have an idea she may be Margaret's aunt.
This a brick wall for me.
Hope some one can help.

Hiya Susan P

I'm guessing you meant the following in 1861 for Margaret

at Sedgefield Durham

Margaret Gibson 24 u head b Sedgefield ag lab
Jane Gibson 11 u day b Sedgefield
Margaret Gibson 6 u dau b Sedgefield
Elizabeth Gibson 4 u dau b Sedgefield
Hannag Gibson 2 u dau b Sedgefield
Mary Rawlins 63 u boarder ag lab

RG9/3696 Folio 31 Page 22

Margarets baptism is on Familysearch 2.12.1855 at Sedgefield, Durham - only mother Margaret listed - no father

Yes that was the census I found thanks for finding the baptism I had looked but did`nt find it although Margaret gave what looks like James on her marriage cert as father if I have the right family then she must of made it up as on the census it states unmarried for her mother.
Still have the baptism now thanks again.

Hiya Jane P

I don't think there is a connection sorry

On the IGI there are the baptisms for the following all at Sedgefield to parents John and Isabella

Isabella 26.4.1829
Margaret 29.9.1822
Elizabeth 11.7.1811
Hannah Dryden 25.12.1824
Ann 12.7.1825
Mary 25.5.1817
Mary 18.4.1831
Jane 24.12.1826
Humphrey 25.12.1825 b 17.1.1821

The marriage of John Gibson and Isabella Dryden was the 7.3.1816 at Sedgefield, Durham

The Margaret c1837 who is the mother of Margaret I can't find a baptism for on the IGI

In 1841 Isabella is in Sedgefield Workhouse with her sister Jane

I will carry on looking for the others

Margaret Stratton 60 m wife b Sedgefield
Isabella Henrici 52 w sister in law b Sedgefield domestic servant
Philip Cassidy 43 u lodger b Sedgefield ag lab
Thomas Bassle 24 u lodger b Sedgefield ag lab

Hi Willow,
i am wondering if it is just coincidence.
if you are correct with the baptisms then Then the mother is Isabella Dryden father John Gibson.
I had been told by some one that Isabella Henrici went to live with a sister after her husbands death.
I thought I had her marriage cert but looks like I will have to send for it it may give a bit more info.
As I said its a brick wall for me keep hoping i will find some thing concrete soon.
My thanks again.
Susan

Sorry Susan - having a blonde moment lol

Yes she married Peter Henrici 30.10.1864 at Church of England. Parish Church of Norton, Durham

If you use this site to search the IGI it makes things a lot easier http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm#PageTitle

Henrici is such an unusual name for them both to marry Gibsons is strange and there probably is a connection somewhere

Yes! think I have cracked it

In 1871 at 183 Tenement Sedgefield Durham

Margaret Gibson 46 u head b Sedgefield out door labourer
Jane Gibson 21 u dau b Sedgefield farm servant
Hannah Gibson 12 u dau b Sedgefield scholar

RG10/4908 Folio 34 Page 29

Margaret gave the wrong age on the 1861 census. She would have been about 13 when her first child Jane was born (not impossible I know) according to the 1861 census. I'll do some more checking but I'm pretty sure she is Isabellas sister

Hiya Susan

I cant find Margaret b 1855 in the 1871 census as you said. I suspect she has been mistranscribed and more than likely when you chase the rest of the family down you will find her

I cant find a marriage either for Margaret and James Stratton so I suspect they are living together

Yes found them in 1891 at Tenement Sedgefield Durham

James Stratton 60 u head b Ireland ag lab
Margaret Gibson 70 u boarder b Sedgefield

RG12/4055 Folio 26 Page 22

Have found Humphrey on 3 census and a marriage ,if indeed he is related to my Gibsons then I am getting somewhere.
Suppose I will have to send for his marriage cert to get confirmation.
Fingers crossed.

Hiya Susan

It really depends how meticulous you want to be and how much money you want to spend

We have the baptism details (though purists say you should actually go and look at the original register to be sure)

As he is the only Humphrey listed in the majority of the census I think you can safely claim him as yours

BTW I wonder if the Elizabeth Proud he is lodging with in 1841 is his sister?

Lol

Just make sure you find as many things out as you can before you go and make a long list of what you want to check at the archive office

Good hunting
