Jan Jansz SWART was born about 1646 in Hoorn, The Netherlands. He works as a "siektrooster" (a direct translation, I think, is "sick comforter" and I think it means that he worked for the church and preached and councelled to the sick or ailing parishoners amongst other things) in Stellenbosch. In 1692 he got permission to bring his wife and children (sons) from Amsterdam to the Cape. At this stage he was the "krankbesoeker" (similar to a "siektrooster") at the Stellenbosch church. His wife was Margaretha COENIE/COERIE. They first lived in the last house left where Andring Street and Dorp [Town] Street ran to a dead end, and it was one of the "Colony houses".
From 1692 to 1701 Jan Swart was a teacher. In March 1697 he bought the (small) farm Vallei [Valley] Luctry from Jean Margra.
