REID or HARRISON families

My ancester Thomas REID was born in Torpichen in 1860. I know Thomas was married to Amy HARRISON in South Africa some years later . I know the HARRISONS were originally from Ireland, but were they also living in this area of Scotland before emmigrating?
Any information on either family please.

Hello Folks,

Using the info that Thomas Reid was born in Torphichen in 1860 - a search of the IGI shows him being born on 12 March 1860.  Parents James Reid and Jane (or Jean) Brown.

Tying in with the census info by maz7552 - and the IGI - www.familysearch.org gives us: searching from 1845 to 1885 -

Children to James and Jane/Jean Brown:

William Reid b.  24 June 1858, Torphichen, West Lothian

Thomas Reid b. 12 March 1860, Torphichen, West Lothian

James Reid b.  16 Sep 1861, Muiravonside, Stirling

Robert Reid b.  28 may 1863, Muiravonside, Stirling

Elizabeth Reid b.28 Feb 1865, Muiravonside, Stirling

Alexander Reid b.  29 Aug 1868, Muiravonside, Stirling

Andrew Reid  b.  19 Aug 1870, Polmont , Stirling

Ellison Blair Reid b.  21 jan 1872, Muiravonside, Stirling (female)

Muiravonside and Torphichen are adjacent parishes.  See link.

All the above are 'extracted' records and can therefore be downloaded from the pay per view site - www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk.  (£6 will allow for 5 downloads)  Site is free to register and do basic searches.  Can also download census info.  Death records for James and Jean will also give their parents names and allow you to go back another generation.  (no need to buy certificates - the downloads will give you the same info)  When you download them, a good tip is to see who the witnesses were as they can give a good picture of family relationships.
