I have found a record for a Reuben White, who I think, may possibly be my gt uncle.
Reuben was sent to Canada as a Home Child March 1907. He was 13 yrs of age. He left from Liverpool on the ship Canada, and arrived Portland 16 March 1907. The party that sent him was The Children's Home. His destination Hamilton Ontario.
According to the record, which is from Library and Archives Canada, there is a microfilm T-514, and a comment; See also reel C-4708.
Would any one know what sort of cahrge there is if you wanted to obtain them, and if anything, what sort of information it would show.
I have no further information on Reuben. If any one can help with this I would be so very grateful.
Many thanks Lyn

T-514 - appears to be just extracts from the ship lists. C-4708 - National Children's Home and Orphanage, London, England (lists)
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/copies/index-e.html - for info on getting photocopies. However, it might not be possible to get a copy if all you have is the reel number - usually they require full information. Not sure how much there would be on the National Children's Home, but T-514 is probably just a list of home-children extracted from the ship records.
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/archivianet/passenger/001045-100.01-e.php - you should be able to find the ship here and look at the passenger list, although it is unlikely to give much info.
http://www.nch.org.uk/information/index.php?i=195 - you could also try asking the NCH about any records they hold, although they make it sound like they don't give out information particularly easily.

Thank you jorose
Another family connection has written to Barnado's. Apparently another query was made to them about the same individual. However they do not give out names and address's, but are going to write to them to let them know about the enquiry. Hopefully the people are still around, or living at the same address. If they are, contact details are going to be passed onto them.
Thank you for the links. I'll certainly look at them.

Hi Karen Reuben's parents were Richard William Charles White and Elizabeth nee Jones.
The 1891 census shows the family living 12 Meard St St Anne Soho London. His age 34 yrs, hers 31 yrs. His occupation was Corkcutter.

Did Rueben have a sister
There's a Reuben White, born 1894, England, crossing the Canada/USA border in 1912, he gives a sister Mrs. ?? Evans, St. Mary's Ontario as closest relative.
Not having any luck finding him in the 1911 Census

Hi Karen
Thank you for taking the time to look for me The record I have says his dep date was 7 March 1907 and he arrived 16 March 1907. Arrival Port Portland, destination Hamilton Ontario.
Reuben had a middle name of Frederick if that's any help. I think this is him on the Uk census;1901: Farm School Bisley Surrey. Age 12 yrs.
.
Reuben had a sister Helen, but she was bought up by her grandparents from the age of 7 yrs. No other sisters known. He also had a brother Ormond White, middle name Edward I think, who was b 1887 Middlesex.
This looks like a real possibility Looking at another border crossing, this Rueben says he arrived Canada Portland, 1907, born London, England. Their Father Richard died 1891, subject of a coroners inquest. Not sure yet what happened to the Mother
I'll check out the www.automatedgenealogy.com. Lyn
