In 1861 Robert appears to be a visitor with a family names Addison, in Shotton.  Can't spot hisparents.

1871 is a tad confusing:  The only Robert Johnson b, Shotton 1846:

Downs new Houses, Hetton le Hole

Jane Johnson  Head  Wid  53   B. Durham, Lambton
Robert Johnson  Son  S  25  Miner B. Shotton
Sarah Johnson  Dau  13  B. Durham Hetton
James Carr  Son  M  25   Miner  B.  Durham, Sherburn
Mary Carr Wife  M  25  B.  Durham, Sherburn
Susannah Carr  Dau  3  B. Hetton
Jane  Carr  2  B. Hetton

On the face of it, it looks as if Elizabeth died, Robert married Jane Carr, then Robert died.

I'll see what I can find for deaths and marriages

Well, there are several  things which could be made to fit the theory, but nothing in the least definite!

All I can say for certain is that in 1861 Robert was still alive and living with Jane:

RG9  P. 3744  Fol 68 Pg 8
Albion House, Sherburn

Robert Johnson  Head  M  49  Coal Miner  B. Durham, Pensham
Jane Johnson  Wife  M  42  B. Durham, Lambton
Mary Johnson  Dau  16  B. Durham, Sherburn
Sarah J Johnson  Dau  3  B. Hetton

If this is the same Robert - and it certainly seems to be - then :

an Elizabeth Johnson died Q2. 1856 reg. Houghton le Spring
No age known

a Sarah Jane Johnson was reg. Q2. 1858 Houghton, and another Q2 1859.
Either could be this Sara.

I haven't managed to find a Johnson / Carr marriage; there is one in Houghton Q2. 1857 Robert Johnson  / Jane Cowell - which maybe Janes maiden name.

I think the Mary Johnson in 1861 is porbably Mary Carr - born Sherburn as was James on the 1971.

All very up in the air, I'm afraid!   Huh

Shall I look for Robert b. 1845 in the 1881 ?  Or have I confused you enough?  Grin  Grin  Grin

Mags, I think we have the same great great grandfather, Robert Johnson.  My great grandmother was Dorothy.  Have just joined this board, but have information going forward on the family, not so much back the way.

Baptisms Penshaw All Saints:

Robert Johnson born 8 July 1811, baptised 10 Nov 1811 4th son of John Johnson, Pitman, native of Chester [le Street] Parish by his wife Sara Jobling, native of Chester Parish.

There are siblings.  The earliest in Penshaw was Ann born 1802, the Richard 1804, George 1806, John 1808, Thomas 1813, Sarah 1815  If you want the dates and what it says on the parish record just let me know.

John Johnson married Sarah Jobling in Penshaw 20 Dec 1801.
