hi treelover . no not really, but i think it would be 1800 til 1840 region, but this would be a guess based on other info i have found.
it may sound silly but i can't place nothing together until i find this marriage.

Odd, I would say Sue it Correct with this one

It shows Sarah's name twice and another woman and one man.  Would suggest that this IS the right one, (it appears to be the only Sarah Goseltine).

If you order this marriage certificate just put her name on it, and state that you only want to order if her husband has surname FENN.

It looks like a transcription error to me.  If the certificate does have his name fine, if not it will only cost you half the amount and they will refund the rest.

Worth a shot, unless someone can see another Sarah Goseltine  Huh

thanks jamajo, i think that is the daughter, i am sure i have that one down as a birth, it is her mother i am looking for, they have the same name.
then again it could be that i have got totally confused and mixed them up. i did have another one born in 1806, but the names and address's are indentical, so need to find the marriage to sort out who is who.

sorry if i am confussing you all, i am confused myself.

Hi Alison,

OK lets start again  Grin

A mother cannot have the same name as her daughter unless she doesn't marry.  So Sarah Goseltine who married 1863 was the daughter of unknown  Goseltine and Sarah unknown.

Do you know the full name of Sarah Goseltine's father??

Alison

1851 census has Sarah Goseltine born 1844 Berks, her father is George Goseltine, and mother Sarah.

There is an older sister Maria born 1841, but I cannot see a marriage for George only one in 1854 to a SARAH NETHERCLIFFE.  Huh   Huh

Have we got the right family??  Although I have to say George and Sarah are a little older than I would have expected??

oh gosh this family history is so confusing.
i have only been looking into it for a week, and probally never explained to well. sarah gosseltine was my fathers great great granmother, she had a daughter also called sarah ann gosseltine, ( my fathers great granmother) and it is this lady whose marriage i am looking for, i think she married a hurbert fenn, but it is very confessing as my father says his grandad also had the same name as his great grandad, so we have 2 sarah anne goseltine and 2 hurbert fenns. i am having trouble tracing one hurbert, let alone 2.
i am sorry to confuse you all.

Hi again

Can you give us birth years of the Sarah Ann and Herbert Fenn in question.  Or possibly the Sarah Ann who was the daughter??  Or just the dates and names you have and what you have found so far

It may be a little easier with dates to work from

Ive just noticed there is a Sarah Ann Fenn married 1908 Reading Berks, is she connected??  And oddly enough, there is a Elizabeth Fenn marrying a Thomas Goseltine in Reading in 1881  Huh   Huh

i have to say i have no dates other than guess work. i do know that thier son herbert fenn junior was born around 1880- 1890 as he died around 1951 aged 63. so i would guess the marriage was maybe from 1870 onwards or possible before, as all i am working with at the moment is info from my dad i have not got certificates but i think i may have to start investing in some.
thanks for all your help

Hi Alison

Have just had a quick look.  There seems to only be two Herbert Fenns one born 1888 registered Berkhampstead and one 1889 registered Peterborough.  Also had a quick look on 1891 census, and I cannot see a Herbert Fenn with a father called Herbert Fenn, but it was only a quick look  Roll Eyes.  Perhaps his marriage certificate will tell you his father's name and profession.  Just in case someone in your family is may be getting a little mixed up.  Its easily done  Wink

I don't know if this will be of any use at all, but I thought I'd see how many Goseltines were on the 1901 census ~ particularly for Berkshire, and I found:

William Goseltine 44 Berks Shinfield Berkshire St Giles Carman Builders
Beatrice Goseltine 9 Berks Reading Berkshire St Giles
Ellen Goseltine 37 Berks Suthamstead Berkshire St Giles
George Goseltine 8 Berks Reading Berkshire St Giles

The others are from Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Staffordshire.

The only Herbert Fenn I found was this one:
Herbert Fenn 10 Surrey Guildford Berks St Giles

And the only Sarah Fenn:
Sarah A Fenn 39 Berks Shinfield Berks St Giles
