Do you have Joseph Martin's baptism - I cannot find him in parish records -there is a marriage on IGI to mary Statham in Duffield and Mary's baptism in Sudbury -but it is a member submitted record -so have to treat with caution.
How certain are you that he was b. Sudbury?

Sorry about this. According to IGI Joseph was born 1/4/1743 in Whetstone Leicester & moved to Derbyshire after marriage. I have the marriage to Mary Statham & all her family records. KenM I have done some more probing & it woul seem that his father could be Robert Martin born 1714 & Mother Mary Bramley. Shepshed Leicester. Can you check for me please

Hello Ken. I think we may have spoken before with regard to Martin surname. My Martin family also originate from the Heanor and Ilkeston areas. I have quite a full tree and would be happy to exchange whatever. Don't think I have a Leics connection though...

Hi The marriage of Joseph Martin and Mary Statham 9.2.1764 appears in Phillimore's Marriage transcripts as follows:- Duffield, Derbyshire Joseph Martin of STUDLEY, Warwick to Mary Statham (of Duffield Parish) by License. You can see this on:- http://www.uk-genealogy.org.uk/england/Derbyshire/towns/d/Duffield/index.html
you need Page 121
Phillimore is normaly very accurate, but perhaps you need to check with the original Register held at County Record Office Matlock.
The Statham Family,in this area, were mainly of Independant Faith and many of their Baptisims cannot be found. They were living in Hazelwood, Shottle, Belper etc., all within the Parish of Duffield.
There is also a William Martin Bpt All Saints, Derby 19.6.1766 Parents Joseph & Mary. This entry is from IGI and is NOT Patron Submitted.
