Wills again. Completed.
« on: Thursday 21 February 08 08:36 UTC (UK) »

I just cannot get to grips with searching for wills.

I have a Probate record from the National Probate Index at the Records office.

It is for George Cullen dated 20.7 1882. He left £211 1s 6d. It was a Middlesex record. Should I be able to find anything about this will online? If I could find this one it may lead me to others.

George was from a close family and don't think he could have been the only member of the family to leave a will but I can't find anything.

I have looked at the threads about Wills but I am no further forward.

Not sure if England works the same way but in Ireland the above entry would indicate that there was no Will and the estate was then administered according to law. Sometimes this is better than a person leaving a Will as the paperwork (unlikely to be available online I would have thought) may mention surviving relatives (although not always by name).
I'm sure someone will be able to give you more information.

Probably not.  It was an administration, rather than a will.

Generally speaking, only pre-1858 wills proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury are available to download online.  LMA are digitising some, but I think they are Surrey wills and again pre-1858.
