family wedding in 1950

Hi there,

I have been searching for details on one of my grt grt grt gandmothers before she married; Mary McMeath, On her daughters birth certif and wedding certif her surname was McVeath, her Fathers name was William McVeath.

Mary was born around 1840-1853. in Liverpool, bt I cant find them on any census. The name doesnt appear at all on ancestory   Undecided  Doing a google search I have found the surname popping up in Ireland Can anyone give any further ino on this surname or possible locations

Hello Sharon,

What denomination was the McVeath.family ? Were they  members of the Catholic faith, the Established Church (Anglicans or Church of Ireland), Methodists or Presbyterians?

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.
