Hello you good Folks. I have just this min joined & I'm feeling pretty nervous. My Sister & I are banging our Heads over this one, we are trying to find our Grand-Mother's Birth...she was born in Middlesbrough not sure what part, The year being 1869/70. We do have her Marriage Cert, Married also in Middlesbrough at St Marks- Cathedral in the year 1888. The name of my Grand-Mother is Annie Callaghan, her Husband was a Patrick Farrell. Why is it so hard to get her Birth Cert...many thanks to one & all June.

Hi June,
Wishing you a warm welcome from me too ..
Hoping it isn't a silly question, but have you considered all the name variants .. according to www.teesvalley-indexes.co.uk .. there is a Middlesbrough birth for an Ann Calligan .. but in 1872.
Kindest regards,
Pels

Hello to all you good People who replied to my quest..looking for my Gran- Mother's Birth. one Annie Callaghan. This is the info i have on her...Marriage Cert. Married in the year 1888 to one Patrick Farrell. Annie's age 19 yrs. Patrick's age 26 yrs. Annie's Father...Patrick Callaghan..Deceased. Patrick's Father...Lawrence Farrell. Married at ST Marks Cathedral Middlesbrough. We also have a Census Copy, 1901 that Annie was born in Middlesbrough. It just so annoying that we cant find her birth. We would dearly love to know who her Mother was. But i thank you all very much for your time & trouble you put into your info you sent me. To everyone who repled to me A BIG BIG THANK YOU..June

Hello June
Given that you are having such difficulty in finding a birth certificate, I wonder whether it is worth trying the baptism angle.
Teesside archives appear to have excellent collections both in relation to Anglican and Catholic churches in Middlesbrough: http://www.archivesnortheast.com/archivepage/teesside-archives.htm
According to the link, they offer a research service if you are unable to visit in person.
Anna
