« on: Saturday 23 February 08 12:08 GMT (UK) »

Hi,
I am looking for a James and Margaret Wood in the 1871/1891/1901 cenus. Also a May mills in the 1891 cenus aged about 13. Also a John  and Jane  Scullion in the 1901 cenus and a Thomas and Margaret Scullion in the 1901 cenus. A Hugh and  Agnes Kennedy in the 1891/1901 and a William Young aged about 18 in the 1891 cenus. Sorry there is so much but anything will help. They may all be in the St Quivox and Newton-on-Ayr area.

Hi, LL
Thanks for the information on my other post. Do you have the ages of the Balmer children on the cenus as i have no marriage for Thomas,s daughter  Margaret. Also the age of James in the 1901 Cenus as i have no marriage for him and i think that he is Margarets brother born 1871. The 1871/91/01 Census is for a James Douglas Wood/ Margaret Scrymgeuor Duncan married 4/6/1860 Ayr. Children are Robert 1861/William F 1863/ John 1869/ Crawford 1872/Jessie K 1873.  The 1901 cenus is for a John Scullion /Jane Dillion married 8/4/1892. No need for May mills in the cenus as i found out she died at the end of 1881. As for John Scullion young in the 1901 cenus all i have is in the posts above.

Not tackled these two yet.  Would they be in the same house or seperate?  Are they all in Ayr as well?  Do you have approximate ages for them?  Need to narrow down William Young so any more details on him will help.
A Hugh and  Agnes Kennedy in the 1891/1901 and a William Young aged about 18 in the 1891 cenus.

Hi, LL
Thanks for all the information , I never expected this much information.
You need not bother about the Kennedys . All i have on William Young is he was born on 7/5/1872  Glasgow but moved back to St Quivox by 1881. His parents were William John Young/ Elizabeth  Scullion. Perhaps he Married Young. Its the same with his brother Samuel born 29/12/1874 don,t know what happened to him after the 1901 cenus .Perhaps they moved away from Scotland.  Regards

Hi, LL,
Thanks once again for the info. I was wandering if you would be able to find the marriage of a William Mc Phee to a Hannah Docherty Young and any Children. Hannah was born on the 27/8/1890 St Quivox and died 7/3/1965, Ayr her parents were William John Young and Elizabeth Scullion. All i know about William is i think his parents are a James McPhee and Mary Ann McLeary And he died on the 31/8/1949 Ayr. I would quite understand if you could not do any more as you have given me far more information than i expected. I am extreemly grateful for what you have allready given me.

Here is what I Found.  I have received a lot of help from others in my own tree quest.  I am now playing the great wall of Ireland game with my tree so it feels satisfying to help others while I wait for the wall to give a little. My tree has many coming from Ayrshire and in helping others I find their trees connecting to mine sometimes which is really satisfying.

marriage of a William Mc Phee to a Hannah Docherty Young and any Children.

Marriage William McPhee and Elizabeth Young

After publication according to the Forms of the Established Church of Scotland

Children will be tricky as these certs must be ordered.  When I did a search in Ayr with the last name McPhee and mother’s maiden name of Young the following came up that could fit.  I believe the middle as a strong fit for children and possible the last one.  Not sure about the first one:

1996   McPhee  Archibald Young         82   1914
1999   McPhee  Hannah           Webb       79    1920

Hi, LL,
Thanks again for the info. Is your tree related to mine at all. I am also having problems with Youngs, Scullions and  the Hendries all coming from Ireland. Its like William Young  born in Ireland in about 1850 and married in Ayr in 1868. I Know his parents were  an Andrew Young and his mother was Sarah  Smith on his marriage But  her name was Agnes Smith on his death Certificate. and she was dead when he married. Its not knowing where in Ireland he was born or wether he came to scotland with his parents or if he had any siblings he came with. Its hard to think he came on his own. I Know the James Scullion/ Margaret Brown were  married in County Antim in 1844/1845 and who thier parents were but thats as far as i have got.

I know exactly what you mean about not knowing how and when they came from Ireland.  At least they list the County in Ireland on some of your relatives.  I had no clue and it took a lot of time to find some hint of where in Ireland they came from.  Is there any more information you are trying to find in Ayr?  Our trees have not crossed yet.
