Thank you Tazzie, v grateful. I wonder if you would help me with something else that has been irritating me for months? If you have access to the PR prs; a daughter of John Dorsett, Eliza (m Gaius Aldridge, Monks Risboro) has 3 children of unknown parentage in their house, Sarah Dorsett (b1857), Jane Dorsett (b1859) and Nellie Dorsett (b1879). They are variously described as stepdaughters/grandaughters.
Nellie is of particular interest to me. She is recorded in the 81 and 91 censuses as having been born in Princes Risb in 1979. I cannot find a BMD entry for her. If you have time, can you tell me whether there is any sign of her - or the others - in the PRs?
Thanks v much for this, and for Jane as daughter of Thomas and Sarah. I knew they had a Jane, didn't make the connection but now I have had a closer look, Thomas was in Surrey as a lodger in 1871 and Sarah and family were living at Horsenden (can't find the census entry but know I saw it and wondered where Thomas was) - perhaps they had fallen on hard times and sister was helping out.
I will definitely check out Emely Nelly, sounds likely. Sarah? maybe illeg born in diff county? Have to look further. I probably will get Nellie's cert, will post details if I do.
Is Nellie on the 1881 CENCUS as Ellen E Dorsett with the Aldridge family or is she a different person?

Gauis married Elizabeth in 1870 I think that Nellie / Ellen /Emely will turn out to be the daughter of either Sarah Ann Dorsett b 1857 or Jane Dorsett b 1859. Both listed as the step daughters in 1871.
Pat ...... There are 2 Janes in Wycombe for births....
Jane Dorsett 1858 q3 Jane Dorsett 1859 q3 both Wycombe .
As the baptism was for 1858 .......the birth cert for Jane b 1859 will reveal mothers name .
Just found my copy of 1871 census, Horsenden. Thomas's wife, Sarah, has a 2 week old baby, Thomas, so more than likely that you are right about Jane being their daughter, away from home for the birth.
