Look Up Please - Mortlake Parish Records

Hi everyone

I have found on farmilysearch.org a christening record for my great grandfather James Henry Clayton as below, just hoping that someone may have access to Mortlake records and could see if the entry has any more details. 

James Henry Clayton <Thomas>
christening 25 Jun 1854 Mortlake Surrey England
mother Catherine Elizabeth Thomas

Not knowing Surrey or the Mortlake area, hope this is not a big ask.

Hi Christine,
Sorry I can't help with the Mortlake records but have you found his birth registration?  That will have all the details.  It doesn't appear on FreeBMD & I had a look through the full GRO indexes  for all quarters 1854 & I couldn't see him.  I then turned to the 1861 census to try & find him & possibly his mother but he seems to have disappeared  Sad  Do you have details of a marriage for him or did that happen in NZ?
By the way, Mortlake comes under the registration district of Richmond,

Liz and I have both been helping Christine with this family for ages.

He just does not exist  Wink (but trying telling Christine that-she's descended from him  Roll Eyes )

Hope someone has the necessary Mortlake baptisms,cos according to the LMA website they've not been deposited there?

Do we have any Surrey experts out there?

Hi Christine, No problems.  I hope you find him although there's a possibility that the birth wasn't registered, I don't think it was compulsory until the 1870's.
CAROL.  When you get a long address like the SHC, there's a 'shrink link' at the bottom of this page, it's very easy to use, I've bookmarked it so It's easy to pull up  Wink
