Hello,
I found this interesting little web site. I'm sure a lot of seasoned family historians already know of it but for those who don't it might be worth having a quick look.

You just type in the surname you are doing research on and it shows you a map of the UK and the locations where they may have originated from, or where they are living now.  You can specify 1881 or 1998.  It's worth having a
look.  Best of luck.
