Hello Tinkerbell 
You don't give any dates for William and Ann's marriage.
I've found two on SP:
1896 - William Gunn and Annie McPhee, Logie Easter, Ross & Cromarty
and, a bit early with their DoBs, but just feasible
1868 William Gunn and Ann McPhie, Inverness, Invernessshire
Can you give an indication of the approx date of marriage and birth of Alexander, please?

I've just checked the marriage cert on SP.
It was 10th April 1868. Ann was aged 15 and William, 22.
The writing is very faint - I'll have to study it very carefully to find out who Ann's parent's were.

Yes, I thought it might be - they got the wrong year on the birth cert.
No siblings of Alexander or Ann on the online IGI that I can see after a search in Inverness. The McPhie children should all be on SP though.
It will have to be done via the 1871-1891, etc.censuses for the Gunns and the 1841, 1851 and 1861 for the McPhies
