Marriage Look-Up - Little Hallam area
« on: Sunday 24 February 08 17:20 GMT (UK) »

Hi All,

I am trying to find a marriage, possibly in Little Hallam or somewhere close by, of an unknown Frances to an unknown DABELL (possibly George) of Nottingham.  Frances was born in Little Hallam and the couple had four known daughters;  Martha abt. 1829, Lydia abt. 1831, Ann abt. 1833 and Elizabeth abt. 1837, all born in Little Hallam.

Widow Frances and the girls appear on the 1841 and 1851 censuses and I know her husband must have been a DABELL because other family members were with them.

To anyone kind enough to search for me, please bear in mind that there are numerous spelling variants for the name DABELL, i.e. DEABELL, DEABILL, DABLE, DAYBELL, DAVILL, DEAVILL, and many more!

Many thanks.

It might be worth investing in a marriage cert for one of the daughters to confirm their father's name:

Marriages Jun 1851
BARKER    George Alfred
DABELL   Lydia
Basford 15 685

Frances' niece Mary DABELL (1851 census) seems to be the daughter of William DABELL (born Notts c1800), but William unhelpfully died before the 1851 census, so that's no help for an exact place of birth.  Sad

Thanks Rambler.  This is quite a way off from my direct line so I am hoping to avoid the expense!

I have the information for most of the family.  William had several brothers, one of whom was George, born abt. 1803 and died, if memory serves correctly without me looking it up, in 1837.  George is the only one I haven't been able to find a marriage for, which is what leads me to think he could be the one who married Frances.

Unfortunately Little Hallam doesn't seem to appear on the IGI and I was wondering if someone might have a Phillimore for the area.
