Three Brothers Knight out on the road...almost!

Parish Church Hurdsfield/Prestbury St Pers
« on: Sunday 24 February 08 17:21 GMT (UK) »

Hi All

I was just looking at an image of a baptism in 1886.  At the top of the page of the Bishop's Transcript it says Solemnized in the Parish Church of Hurdsfield.

When I look at Genuki for Hurdsfield it says the Parish Church is Prestbury St Peters.

Can anyone tell me why the transcript would say Hurdsfield if the baptism actually happened at Prestbury?

Or is it the case that there would have been a little church in Hurdsfield but that the official record of the Baptism had to be sent to or collated by Prestbury.

I'm a bit confused.

Many thanks

I have really no proof but my youngest son was baptised in Hurdsfield in the 1970's and I find it easy to believe it was a 'daughter/subsidiary' church to Prestbury in the 1800's, which is a much more important Parish.

Thanks Mumsie - I think I have now found the answer  - looks like it was part of prestbury and then was granted it's own parish a few years before this baptism.
