Hi,

I have just logged back on to the rootschat site for the first time since 2005!!
You are researching the Burt family, who, I have only just recently discovered
are on my paternal side of the family.
I was really puzzled over who John Burt married but from what you had on your board, he married twice, first Agnes Annas Whyte and then Agnes Sympson.  This actually makes sense - I look forward to receiving more info
in the future.

Hello Tab11,

It's great to receive a message from your island, even though it's a tad smaller than the one that I live on - Australia. Mind you, the Isle of Man is somewhere that I've never had the pleasure of visiting even though I've roamed over many places back "home" in the UK.

Welcome back to RootsChat and it's nice to know that I have written something useful! You will have noticed, I'm sure, that as well as having written about the Burts, my latest postings are about the Buchanan's, Burt's and Forsyth's. Other postings cover many of the families of Fife, although I do venture into other counties.

After having a good read of my postings, it may well be that other parts of your family are connected to mine, and you could start to create a more detailed Family Tree.

I look forward to hearing from you again.

Kind regards to all your family,

Tom.

Tom,

I've read through this thread and wondered if anywhere along the way there were any connections to Burt families of Camelon (Falkirk)?

There's quite a few of them buried in St. John's Churchyard but I haven't done any research on them apart from photographing their stones and recording the MI's.

The 'earliest' couple were Thomas Gordon Burt, died 1881 age 61 (born c1820)
and his wife Elizabeth died 1897 age 64 (born c1833)

I believe many families were involved in the 'Nail' industry in and around Camelon.

Hello Anne,

You must have read my mind, lass. I will shortly be researching this important part of Scotland regarding the Buchanan/Burt family. I am well aware that the Burt's of Dunfermline in Fife play a very large part in my own family and I'm also aware of the connections in Lanarkhire. What really interests me is that I am able to go way back into the 1500's when I look at Buchanan in Stirlingshire.

Any information that you may have on the two families - Burt and Buchanan in and around Falkirk would be of enormous interest to me. Having read my postings, have you any connections to my people on my Family Tree.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards,

Tom.

Hi Tom,

No - I don't have a connection - I just enjoy joining in and if I can add a wee bit here and there . . . . . .

I'll send you a list (by PM) of Burts in St. John's Churchyard, Camelon. There may be many more in Camelon/Falkirk Cemetery but then that's another story!  Grin

Hello Anne,

That's very kind of you and greatly appreciated. I was truly amazed when details of the gravestone in Bowhill Cemetery in Auchterderran, Fife were sent to me. I was given so much more extra detail from them.

I'm really looking forward to seeing some of the names on the list but, at the moment, I'm experiencing quite a bit of difficulty with my computer in downloading attachments.

Kind Regards,

Tom.

Hello "Beans",

Funny that you should say that, because as you're message came through, I was working away on that exact piece of information!

Today, my wife and I will be visiting a close friend of ours in hospital who was involved in a horrendous accident. She is improving each day, I'm delighted to say. That will slow down a bit on your request, but I have the following on-going information i.e. more to come.:

Alexander Burt was born about 1790 at Baldridge in Dunfermline, Fife and married Isabell Allen on the 1st of May, 1812 at Baldridge, Dunfermline.

Thir children:

Andrew Burt born 30th May, 1813 at Dunfermline Fife and died about 1873.
Alexander Burt 30th November, 1814 at Baldridge, Fife, and died about 1820 .
John Burt born 15th August, 1816 at Dunfermline, Fife and died about 1846.
Peter Burt born about 1818 at Torryburn, Fife. and died about 1846.
Isabell Burt born aout 1821 at Torryburn, Fife and died on the 26th December, 1839.
Jane Burt born about 1823 at Torryburn, Fife and died about 1865.

I will continue looking at other member's of the Burt family and this will slot more pieces into the overall picture. Instead of just having a Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather Ancestral Chart, we will have details of individual family members connected to (hopefully!) the correct parents.

Kind Regards,

Tom.

Hello Pam,

I can't see what you're problem about posting is. Would you like to try and contact me off-line if you're stuck about anything to do with the Burt family.

Kind Regards,

Tom.

Hi,

I've just join the Rootschat website and I'm interested in the Burt family from Dunfermline and the branch that moved to Utah in the 1840's. I have been researching for a few years now as I am descended from John Burt b.1550. He is my 11th GG Father. I have built up a tree of his descendants which you can find on my website; http://donnelly999.tribalpages.com/

I am continually checking out the accuracy of the Burt Line as I have more than 1000 related Burt's. Hope this is of use to you in your Burt research and I look forward to any feedback on any errors I may have.
