Can anyone help with the surname RAKOWSTSCHIK please?
« on: Monday 25 February 08 04:42 GMT (UK) »

Has anyone heard of the following surname or know where it may originate:

Rakowstschik

There are a couple of people I may have an interest in but I need further information:

Riwka Rakowstschik 1908 Apr-May-Jun    St George in The East  London, Middlesex

and

Samuil Rakowstschik 1908 Apr-May-Jun    St George in The East  London, Middlesex

Googling hasn't really got me very far and the only occurrence of them that I have found is on Ancestry, England & Wales, FreeBMD Marriage Index: 1837-1983

Hi AMBLY

Thank you very much for the info.  I'm dreading to think how many surname variations there may be.  It does look like Russia could be a good starter from whence the surname originated though.

Off to do some more searching again.

I would think the name is likely to originate from the town of Rakovchik, Ukraine.
