My Grant ancestors
|
Hi there
According to the following source cited by Ancestry, the whole family Duncan/Mary and children Catherine, Kirsty and Angus emigrated to Ontario in 1849.
LAWSON, BILL. A Register of Emigrant Families from the Western Isles of Scotland to Ontario, Canada, Part 1 Bruce, Grey & Huron Counties. Northton, Isle of Harris, Scotland: Bill Lawson Publications, 1996. 102p.
If you google Co Leis Thu? you will get Bill Lawson's website and perhaps be able to contact him for any more info he might have. He runs a fabulous research centre on Harris, researching all of the western isles families.
In the meantime I'll have a trawl of ancestry and see if I can find out anything more about the family's lives in Canada.
Regards
Ellen.

Before leaving, I think they were in Kilpheder, South Uist. The marriage will not have been in the OPR as they were undoubtedly Catholic. It should be in the records for Bornish, South Uist, which are now kept at St Michaels RC Church, Ardkenneth, South Uist. Good hunting.
