How do I insert a smiley and use BBC tags
« on: Monday 25 February 08 10:14 GMT (UK) »

I have been using Rootschat for a while now and still haven't worked out how to insert a Smiley or use BBC tags i.e. to make bold text, underline or change the font colour. All I seem to get when I click on them is computer gibberish to me.

What am I doing wrong???

To insert a smiley you need to make sure that you have a space either side of the smiley or else it reverts to its original text format

Have the cursor at the point you want to insert the smiley press the space bar click on the smiley and press the space bar.

The BBC tags should be either side of the text you want to alter
Code:
[quote]would normally show this as a quote[/quote]
[b] would normally show this as  bold text[/b]

Quote
would normally show this as a quote

would normally show this as  bold text

 ..... the /quote tag is used to end the quoted section and begin normal message content again.

although certain of the codes only work if placed in the correct order its generally wiser to avoid over using them in normal messages.

Have a look at http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,252404.0.html
for some guidance about changing the fonts and colours of text

and http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,201182.0.html

for a better explanation about using the BBC tags.

Not at all

Code:
[color=Green]changing colour[/color]
[b]changing to bold[/b]
[i]changing to italics[/i]
[u]underlining[/u]
striking through [s]text[/s]
[b][color=Red]changing to bold and colour[/color][/b]

changing colour
changing to bold
changing to italics
underlining
striking through text
changing to bold and colour

PS your smiley only appears after you post the message so the crying smiley appears perfectly in your post

Thanks to the links I thought I had though I had cracked it but

If at first you don't succeed try try again!

Many thanks to all the instructors!

PS Why can't I get it to work with colour?  It doesn't like the other changes and the colour, is there a limit? Or am I being stupid?
