Best wishes

Mo Re you reply to me - The parents of my Donald were William MCKAY/MACKAY and Marian SUTHERLAND. This William was possibly a brother of your Angus MCKAY born in 1772 as the family were in Blacksmiths in Rogart for many years. I will keep your info. and will let you know if I find a link. Can you let me know your e.mail address in case I find a link? Bye for now Christine Mackay 19/1/2005

Hi Christine, I've been researching my wife Sheila Mackay's family and you're definately related.
George Levison Gower Mackay born 3 July 1835 Dornoch, is the George no 6 in your list of children. He married Elizabeth Hardie 6th July 1858 in Old Meldrum. One of their children was Robert Mackay, my wife's grandfather.
John Mackay (no 8 in your list of children) and Mary Murray married 27th January 1877 (or 16th February 1877, depending on which record you believe) in Rogart, as you know. One of their children was Margaret Anne Mackay, my wife's grandmother.
So infact Robert and Margaret, who married 3rd September 1910 in Inverness, were first cousins and my wife is related to 2 of the children in your list!
Do you have any more details that you can share on Donald Mackay and Margaret Nicholson and their ancestors? Or on any of the other children in the list and their families? I've been trying find out about the Mary Murray who married John, but whilst I know her parents were Angus Murray and Janey McIntosh, I can't find her birth or their marriage records.
Regards, Mike

Dear Mikewebber
Wow, I have finally found some living family on our Mackay line. And connected through two siblings !!! That will save us some work in following up that extra line.
My daughter visited a record office in Rogart a few years back and he sent me quite a lot of info. on this family. He has the marriage of John to Mary Murray as 16/7/1877 in Rogart. Maybe the 27th of January was the date of the Banns?? (Did they require Banns then?) Or maybe for some reason they were married twice. In two different churches because of different religions etc. or the two families were fueding, a common occurence in Scotland even now.
Would love to hear back from you. If you let me know your e.mail address I can scan the info. that this researcher sent to me and send it to you. Where in this world are you residing?

Elizabeth
Sorry, but I cannot see any connection to your Jane Mackay Gordon and none of my female siblings from that era married a Gordon.

Was looking at details of family names you we were interested in and saw 'McKeon' in details of a Scottish ancestor of yours who married a McKeon in Australia. No connexion I don't think though. Our 'McKeon' is spelt with an 'e'. Thought you might be interested to know that we McKeones live in the Bishopstoke Hampshire, where your Smith ancestors originated. We live in the former home of Dean Garnier, who was Rector in Bishopstoke in the early part of the 19th century, so he might well have baptised some of your ancestors!
Best wishes hantshog

Hantshog,
Ours has sometimes had an 'e' and they were from Elfin, Roscommon in Ireland. They came to Australia in the 1840's and settled around the Ipswich, Queensland area.
It would be interesting to see if your Rector did baptise, bury or marry any of my Smiths.
Cheers, Christmack

Hello Christine,
I have just found this site as I have just begun to trace my family. My great grand-father and great grand mother were Alexander Ingram and Willemina McKay. Thanks to you I have a good idea of Willeminas background but not anything as yet about Alexander. My grand-mother was Agnes Ingram married name Stewart and she married George Duncan Stewart. They lived for some time until their deaths in Carluke near Lanark. Hope to speak to you soon.
Agnes

Willinas daughter Mary seems to have married twice. The second husband was George McAndie Ross. I remember my grandmother visiting relatives called George Ross in Airdrie.I presume this may be the son of this second marriage. I also wondered if anyone had come across Nellie and Sarah Roy who lived in Mosstodloch near Elgin. They were I think cousins of my grandmother Agnes Ingram. Agnes
