Gt-gt-grandmother Elizabeth Nelson 1847- 1936
|
Hi All
I am looking for any information on William King Crump who was both the executor on a Will for one of my ancestors Charles Brooks (an ironmonger from Witney who died 1836) and a witness at another of my ancestor's marriage. He was the brother-in-law of Charles Brooks (married to his sister I assume) and I'm interested in finding out about his line of business/occupation. I'd be really grateful if someone could find him for me on the 1841 or any subsequent census, or details of his marriage. I understand the term 'brother-in-law' could also have meant 'step brother' at that time?
Kindest Regards Julie

There is an 1841 entry for Witney - indexed as CRUSSEP I have checked the image but could not say for sure that the surname is Crump but think it's a likelier bet than Crussep
The address was High St he was aged 40 and was an ironmonger. No wife listed but 3 children
Catherine 15 Martha 14 Mary 11 Everybody b in county
Here's why I couldn't find him on the 1851
freebmd deaths

Thanks for that Carole!
I used to be able to look all this stuff up myself but I let my Ancestry subscription lapse last year when I thought I'd found just about everything I was going to need - I do miss it now though!
Regards, Julie

Thanks Myfi!
My Charles Brooks was married to Ann Sydenham so I assume she and Catherine were sisters - that explains how the two were brothers-in-law.
Thanks for this information, it is very much appreciated. I don't suppose you could shed any light on the death of Ann Brooks, formerly Sydenham? I believe she died prior to 1836 as there is no mention of her in her husband's will.
Regards, Julie

Thanks again Myfi!
I had found an Ann Lucas Sydenham born in London in 1793 to parents John & Kitty, but she could not have been mine as she was too young ... it does seem strange that this one should have the same middle name as Catherine Lucas Sydenham though.
I assume you didn't find any trace of Martha Sydenham, who I had assumed was another sister?
Regards, Julie
