Buckingham Town baptism 1770-75
« on: Monday 25 February 08 17:26 GMT (UK) »

My gggg g/father Thomas Carter was born in Buckingham Town, according to the 1851 census, in approx 1773. I know he married in London in 1799 and was a baker in Great Oakley in Essex by 1806. It would be wonderful to trace his baptism in Buckinghamshire, but so far I have had no luck online.

  Hi ......

Sorry This has been unanswered for so long . I normally pick up any in this area but missed your post somehow.

Anyway .....have been to look at the parish records for Buckingham parish church.

I checked all baptisms between 1770-1780 to cover a later baptism but I could not see one for a Thomas Carter.

However in 1780 there was a baptism for  John Carter son of Job & Mary Carter .

With theses early dates they do not state where the family were living at the time of the baptism , so it is possible they moved from one of the villages close by....Stowe/ Dadford / Chackmore. I have found this occuring before as people moved around the Stowe estate for work they moved from cottage to cottage and there are small hamlets all around Buckingham where he could have been baptised.

Sorry not to have been more help.

Thanks for your efforts.  It would have been better to have an ancestor with a less common name.
