Hej Audrey,
Many thanks for this link. I have just found a death which hasn't been transcribed yet on Free BMD. Other Chatters with an interest in the area should try it as they too might be lucky.
It has saved me a lot of effort.
Steve.

Blyth News Death Notices.
In Blyth Library, first floor, is a set of drawers housing a million index cards in alpha order... some of these are notices of BMDs, referenced with date of edition of Blyth News. Some even hold the page number whereon notice appeared.
Drawers face the reception desk.

Dolly,
Could you please check to see if there are notices for the following;
John James Murray, died Feb 6th 1922. Eleanor Murray, died June 4th 1925.
Bernard Doran, I do not know his date of death but he was alive in the 1901 census aged 70 (8 Double Row Newsham).
Robert Mann, again date of death unknown but alive aged 59 in the 1901 census (44 Lynn Sreet).
Thanks again for taking the time to check this for me.
Michael, Thanks for the info re the card index. I have lots of names I would like to look up and knowing of this index inspires me to take a trip up to Blyth. I am a Blyth lad by birth but left in 75. I know I must have distant relations in the town, as I remember when young that everyone my granny spoke to when we went "down the street" shopping, appeared to be a cousin or some other form of relative. Sadly family history is a hobby taken up when those who could answer many questions are no longer with us. Cheers Pete

Hi
Does anybody live near enough to Blyth Library to see if they have in their records an article re my Great Grandad Robert (or Rob or Bob) Ward celebrating his 90th Birthday in 1944 (born 29/04/1854)
My Dad can remember there being such a thing but the photo disappeared from his parents house when his Mum died; I have tried Newcastle Library but they cannot find this article.
Many thanks, Anne Ward

Many thanks Audrey-I think the lady at Newcastle Library already looked in the Chronicle; I think the Blyth News would be the most likely bet as Robert lived in that area.
I am trying all avenues as my Dad will be 75 soon so I am hopeful I may be able to obtain a copy of the article!
Kindest regards

Thank you Audrey for the listing of death notices. Now that I've found the names, how do I obtain copies? I don't live in England so a trip is not possible.
Thank you.

Hi,
This is what I found out about ordering copies of death notices.
1939 onward can be obtained from Newcastle Evening Chronicle.
Prior to 1939 are at the local studies department at Newcastle Central Library; email:local.studies@Newcastle.gov.uk
Thank you for posting the index.
