Looking for any information on the Flett Family from North Bigging, Harray. My g-grandfather Robert Corrigal Flett left the Orkneys for Canada and then to Michigan to fight in the American Civil War. He married  Susannah Robinson and  moved to Spangle, Washington. Many thanks for any help. sharoncallinan@eircom.net

Thanks Ev for your reply. I have traced Robert , his parents and his siblings, his grandparents and their children,  in the Scotish census and Robert 's Civil War records and in the Washington Census. I am trying to find the correct list of his  father James' parents'(James and |Margaret Flett) children. They married in Dec.12,1793.But there were several James and Margaret and Peggy Fletts having children in Harray at the time.Have found list varying from 5 to 17.children to this one couple.Am convinced that some of the "17" are actually children of another couple James and Peg Flett. May have to find a researcher who can sort it out. Also Robert went to Canada to a brother or brothers. Have never been able to trace them or where in Canada they went. Also...some of his uncles may have been employed by the Hudson Bay Company....or somehow associated with Sinclair and the Red River Settlement. The Thomas Flett 1814..mentioned many times...may have been Robert's uncle, and may have met up with him in the northwest. And finally I found a message from 2001 from a Dan Simkins...who mentioned having a family Bible mentioning Robert C. Flett and his wife and children. Have not  been able to get in touch with him. Would love to see a copy of my g-grandfathers Bible. There are still so many unanswered questions.  Thank you again for your kind reply...Sharon

Hi Callin
I am John Carpenter and my James Flett of Furso married Peggy Flett from Nisthouse on 17 Jan 1804 and they had 12 kids. I am chatting with another descendant and we agree about 10 of these kids, but not about all of them, and this is because of the reasons that you mention. If you are on the same line as me, then James parents were Thomas Flett (Furso) and Marjory Flett, and Margaret Flett's parents were William Flett of Nisthouse and Margaret Isbister. Maybe we could compare lists and help each other out?

Hello John.great to hear from you. I wrote you many years ago and you gave me the name of John Flett in Essex. He was a wonderful help to me...he had so much information about my Flett line. The e-mails abruptly stopped and I e-mailed you to see if you had heard from him, but you hadn't. Do you have any idea what happened to him. My Fletts'were James and Mgt. married Dec 12, 1793. James' parents seem to be John Flett and wife unknown. His father seems to be another John married to Margaret Harvey. I don't have Margaret's family.James' son was my g-g-grandfather James Flett married to Hannah Corrigal Flett.
It is very interesting that you are related to the other James and Peg Flett having children @ the same time. There is someone related to my line who believes 17 childen listed  as children of a James and Mgt. Flett all belong to this one couple. ...(married1797)I am sure they all do not. Would love to see the list  of 10 you are convinced belong to your James and Peg...I could cross them off the list of 17.also who are the other 2...I may be able to convince you they are from my line???Hope to hear from you...Sharon Callinan sharoncallinan@eircom.net
