I have the following information which may/may not be relevant

John died 1885 West Felton
Carolines middle name is Louisa

Hi

Scotland's People www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk  lists two possibles baptisms for him:

4 May 1826, Dunnottar, Kincardine Parents - William Murray and Mary Stewart

and

11 Feb 1827, St Cyrus, Kincardine Parents - David Murray and Elizabeth Ross

These are from the Church of Scotland parish records so if his parents were not of that particular religious group, they would not be listed.

Have you tried locating him  on the 1841?

I'll see what info I have on the Shropshire side.

Hiya Gadget

Yes - under Shropshire in 1841 there is a John Murray listed b Scotland 1811 but in 1851 this is actually Ireland and a different family

I dont know how accurate the ages are for Scotland census in 1841 but there is one b 1825, one b 1826, one 1827 and one 1828 in Kincardineshire

Just found a possible for Harriet Jones

Ruyton X1 Towns is close to Baschurch - only one on IGI (controlled extraction) with mother Mary is

Baschurch 17 March 1822 Harriet Jones. parents John Jones and Mary

One thought is that John could have been Harriet's second husband - I've had a quick look through the full index for Jun Q 1851to Dec Q 1852 and can't find anything promising around then (eldest child on 1861 is 9).

I'll take another look shortly, I might have missed something.

There's an interesting one for a Harriet Jones on FreeBMD

Oswestry, Sept Q, 1851, Vol 18 Page 167

on the same page is a John Munsy or Mandy (both included - poss difficulty reading)

I'll go check the full index

Hi Gadget and Willow

I can't find a birth for Frederick - I have found Henry John & Caroline & it appears Henry died aged 12 in 1867

This appears to be the family in 1851 - so it seems mary wasn't previously married - wonder if William is her son?

Shropshire West Felton 1851
John Jones head mar 72 ag lab Shrop Oswestry
Mary Jones wife M 63 Shropshire West Felton
Harriot do daur U 30 dress maker do Ruyton  11 towns
William do son U 28 ag lab       do  do
Henry do son U 21    do          do West Felton
William do son 9 scholar do Whittington

That marriage looks good - may be worth checking at the district registry

Hi Trish  Smiley

Oswestry is one of my stomping grounds. That 1851 family seems to tie in nicely with the baptism on the IGI.

The Munsy one is the only one that I can find.

Shropshire Archives are pretty helpful

Gadget

PS - the John Murray b. St Cyrus was on the 1841 still in Kincardine - father David was a shoemaker

Found Frederick - surname spelt Murrey Mar 1852 and as Harriet was single in 1851, the marriage still looks possible - there was one other for a Harriet Jones - Jun 1852 - but no possible husband on Freebdm

Hiya Gadget & Trish

Thanx for that information

It does look like the right Jones family in 1851. There is a baptism on the IGI of a Harriott Jones parents John and Mary 2.1.1820 Ruyton of the Eleven Towns Shropshire

I haven't come across anything so far to mention William is Harriotts child although Henry her son had the middle name of William

Harriott and John also had another child - Mary Elizabeth bap 9.1.81854 d 13.1.1854 from the IGI

That marriage for Jones/Munsy is looking like a good possibility

Given the Mary Elizabeth,  just wondering if the St Cyrus baptism might be yours then:

11 Feb 1827, St Cyrus, Kincardine Parents - David Murray and Elizabeth Ross

As I said, they were on the 1841, still in Kincardine - worth checking them on the 1851. Do you have access to the Scottish censuses?

Interestingly, the Dunnottar John Murray is still in Scotland on the 1851 - in prison - but the John Murray s/o David and Elizabeth, St Cyrus, 1826,  isn't.

So maybe it is this one.
