Mayers-sharing good news and thank you
« on: Wednesday 27 February 08 16:47 UTC (UK) »

I just wanted to share my delight in being able to trace back my husbands Mayers family in Fermanagh.  I have now got 4 generations and their wives (except one) and their occupations, plus witnesses to their weddings, plus other possible family members, exact dates of births and marriages. Plus confirmation of the place that they lived.  Family lore has been proven right so far.

I wouldn't have been able to do it without the help and expertise of the good people on here naming OTTO and Aghadowey, and also the very kind lady at the Parish Church for toing and froing, looking up my requests.

You are all STARS and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Being able to trace Irish roots is so difficult, as most of you know, so I wanted to show you that it is possible.

I have lots of questions about the Mayers, especially as I want to be able to find some evidence that they did indeed arrive from Scotland to Ireland.  This is a tall fete I know, and I probably won't get there, but I'll give it ago.

The last Joseph Mayers I have found is only a name, and I don't know his exact date of birth but it must be about 1760ish, which is a long way to go back..for me anyway.

I have maiden names of their brides too, except the last Joseph, so I not only have the Mayers but a starting point for other branches of the tree.

So thanks again all for your help.
