who are the parents??

 ???I am trying to find the parents of Rebecca Williamson born in Cumbria in 1913. Her grandmother Mary Weighman was sent to jail for 2/12 hard labour for child cruelty for neglecting her. Mary had 13 children and one of her daughters was the mother of Rebecca and her sister Mary Ellen born 1899. The daughter was in service at the time of the court hearing and it doesn't give her name. I only have the names of 10 of Mary's children and excluding the ones still living at home the mother may be Jane (born 1891) or Nellie (1889). Unfortunatley I don't know the names of the other 3 children. Can anyone help?? Cass

The birth registration if you want to buy the certificate is
Rebecca Williamson ~  June Quarter 1913 Whitehaven 10b 1354 mother's maiden name Weighman

THANKS BARBARA, DO YOU HAVE A BIRTH FOR MARY ELLEN. i MADE A MISTAKE SHE WAS BORN IN 1909 NOT 1899!!! IF JANE DID NOT MARRY UNTIL 1911 SHE MAY HAVE THE SURNAME OF WEIGHMAN AND NOT WILLIAMSON. CASS

Many thanks Barbara. I did have the census information previously but my computer crashed last year and I lost a lot of info that I hadn't saved(!!) so it was great to get it again. Will make sure I save it on a disc this time. With regards to Mary Ellen - sounds promising but on the court hearing papers it stated that she was 3yrs and 11 months. That was in July 1913 which means she was born in August 1909. Also I was not aware that in those days you could register in the fathers name if you were not married??Cass

Some information regarding birth registration can be found at http://www.dixons.clara.co.uk/Certificates/births.htm
part of the entry states: "The child will take its surname from that of father in Column 4 where the parents were married and from mother in Column 5 if they were not married and fathers name is not entered. The child could take either surname if it was a joint entry and both mother and fathers surnames are shown but are different".

You could check with the register office before ordering any certificate to check for mother's name before buying, most offices will do this for you

From freebmd 1909 births are:
