Local knowledge needed please
« on: Thursday 28 February 08 21:18 GMT (UK) »

Have either Little or Great Paxton ever been located in Northamptonshire?  In 1851 and 1861 census entries, an ancestor was recorded as born in Paxton or Faxton in Northants - the writing is for once very clear.

I know there is a Paston and a Faxton (another possible place) in Northamptonshire, but a possible ancestor was described as being from Paxton in Northants.  However his son William Warren was in St Neots in 1861.  Both were felmongers and/or parchment makers.  William moved from Wokingham, Berkshire, via Edmonton in Middlesex, Caversham in Berkshire, Bermondsey in Surrey to Neots before going back to Reading and later Abingdon.  I wondered if St Neots may have been home of some relatives since it is does not seem as logical as some of his other moves.

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Both Paxtons were in Hunts and are some miles from Northants. Little Paxton is a only a mile north of St Neots
